Chuck’s Tips

As the temperatures start staying about freezing at night everyone starts to think about turning their irrigations systems on.

Here are a few tips to help you keep the steps right.

The first thing you need to do is remember where your main shut off is located and your main drain – if your system has one. Once you find these you will need to close your drain (if equipped) and after closing the drain you then can slowly turn on your main water valve.

If your system has a back flow prevention devise, at this time the bleeders that you opened when you shut down the system in the fall will start to have water flow out of them. Take a screw driver and slowly close all of them. At this time check your main valve box for any leaks now that the system is under pressure. If all looks dry check to make sure that all the wires look like they are all connected.

Now that the system in pressurized you can start looking at your timer. One of the first things you need to do once opening your timer is replacing the 9V back up battery. If your timer is equipped with a 9V this helps save the programming when you have power outages.

After replacing the battery you are ready to program the time. All timers are different and most all have directions on the inside of the main door. If you have lost yours maybe try checking the web for your model and brand of timer and see if the operating instructions are online. Don’t forget to check the City of Santa Fe web site to see if the City is in any type of watering restrictions.

I hope these tips will help and if you have any questions or feel like you may have a problem, feel free to contact us here at High Desert and we will be more than happy to schedule an appointment to come and help you out.
